With Adblock Plus running this is what the Jalopnik FP looks like for me. I use Adblock primarily just so I can delete website panels I don’t like. The load time from a Chrome new tab is 1.63 seconds averaged over 5 tests.

Kinja'd!!!

Note the lack of general clutter

Without Ablock Plus running this is what the Jalopnik FP looks like. Much more cluttered and crawling with scrolling panels, gifs, timed ads, etc. Load time averaged over 5 tests is 6.60 seconds.

Kinja'd!!!

Just too much clutter for the site to look good

My internet is fairly fast so I’m lucky with how quickly everything loads. I know Jalopnik runs off ad revenue, but the difference in page appearance as well as load times and general convenience makes running Adblock the best choice.

Kinja'd!!!

This is slower than usual. Most of the time my download speed hovers around 150-200 Mbps

Do not use Adblock, Ublock Origin is far superior because Adblock has now started selling whitelisting options to ads.

I use it too, but I went as far to block the upper black bar cause I hate the articles that pop down you your cursor goes over them.

Wanting a site to look better and load a few seconds faster is better than giving some form of payment for entertainment that you are pretty much getting for free? Lame. If your thing had been “some ads are malicious”, sure, I’ll give you that. But come on dude.

Kinja dashboard makes for a nice “front page” if you limit the amount of blogs and authors you follow. No ads there.

BTW, does Kinja still let you follow new blogs? I can’t seem to find the button anymore. I use Kinja Dashboard as my home page, and I’m still “subscribed” to Jalopnik, Gizmodo, and Lifehacker. But I’m not sure if I can still add new blogs to my feed.

As the Google developers who made the Youtube “Red” platform wonderfully said, “AdBlock has consequences!”

I need to allow the ads but get rid of the trash from lesser Gizmodo Media sites.

What, you don’t like dildo ads on your screen while you’re at work? Pfft.

To be fair, I normally agree with you. But the dildo ads eliminated any sympathy I had for GawkerNet. I work in a one room, open office with lax internet rules. But having that on my screen got me a few concerned glances...

I get where you’re coming from with that. Gawker is renowned for having no tact. Still, I’ll put up with that.

I’m perfectly happy to have ads. The content needs to be paid for somehow. But I do use adblock plus to prevent especially annoying ads. Their whitelisted ads are generally fine. I would of course prefer that sites simply stick to non-intrusive ads in the first place instead of having to pay off a middleman to be able to serve them.

Hmm, I don’t see the follow option for blogs anymore either. It’s too bad, I’ve been using Kinja Dashboard since back when they tried the stupid multiple Gawker split, and it actually works fairly well.

My problem is that ads are a attack vector for malware, and most websites are not to fussy about who buys ad space. Until that changes I’m not risking my network security.

I know there’s a plug-in to block certain authors. Idk if you could entire blogs though.

Meh, I feel no pain for UniGawkerVision. Maybe if they stopping putting dildo ads on my screen they would not face the wrath of uBlock Origin (better than AdBlockPlus).

It also makes AutoGuide powered forums run infinitely faster, and they certainly don’t need my money...instead of improving their horrid servers, they’re taking member dues and paying themselves.
